Hi all i am spitting mad! I was supposed to be having my bunion done in 2 weeks. The date was carefully organised so that it was at the start of the Easter holiday so that I would miss the minimum of school. As I look after my grandaughter one day a week my daughter had to book leave to cover those days as well. I was told to go for a MRSA check on Tuesday and it has come back possitive. The treatment takes 3 weeks so my operation now has to be rescheduled. I suppose it will have to be at half term but that will affect the support I give to GCSE students (I'm a learning support teacher) Also part of my work is self-employed so I will lose money. They clearly know the treatment will be 3 weeks (I didn't) so why isn't the appointment to take the swabs done 4 weeks before the op rather than 2 weeks. Why can't people have joined up thinking!!!

Nothing is dependable with the nhs, they are always seem to be chasing their own tail. Sorry its upset all your plans though!! But then again what would we do without it?

Well - it is finally happening. Bunion op scheduled for tomorrow afternoon. Day surgery only. I go in at 4pm and should 'escape' 5 hours later!! It also happens to be our school's open evening and there have been a few comments that this is rather an extreme way to avoid it . I'll be glad to get it over and done with. With a bit of luck the sun will shine over the next few weeks and I can convalesce on the swing seat in the garden, waited on by my husband and daughter Wish me luck folks Sue

Good luck Sue and hope you will soon be bunion free. You do know that it takes absolutely ages to recover don't you (wink wink), or more importantly I hope your Husband and Daughter realise that you will have to lie prostrate on the swinging seat for most of the summer and you could not possibly do such highly dangerous things as getting yourself a drink or something to eat without causing irreparable damage. Take care Jackie xx

Thanks for the good wishes folks. It all went very smoothly. Although it was NHS it was done at our local private hospital and there is certainly a difference (although I have had no complaints about our 'real' hospital.) They warned me that it might be quite uncomfortable last night but in fact I slept quite well. It is sore but only really hurts when I am walking. Now I shall lie in the sun. Take care all Sue

Hi Sue How's it been going now you've had the bunion op? I look at my poor feet and keep thinking that one day I'll have to have it done too, but they don't hurt atm so I'm not going there yet! Anyway, I hope it's all gone well - do let us know your experiences Best wishes - Sylvia Be kinder than is necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle

Hi all I was fully expecting my bunion operation to be quite painful but it really wasn't. I kept up the painkillers for the first few days but really it was never more than a strong ache. I was very careful to keep it raised for the first week and treat it very gently but by now I can do most things as long as I pace myself. I am really chuffed with my nice straight toes. I see the consultant in 6 weeks so will then book the other foot. Sue

Hi Sue - that's really great news. You've made a quick recovery and gives me more courage to go for it. Sounds like a good excuse to get more shoes!! haha Sylvia xx Be kinder than is necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle

Well, back to the hospital yesterday thinking I was doing well and got told off ( very nicely!!) apparently my foot was more swollen than it should be and I was wearing the wrong sort of shoes. Apparently I need to be wearing trainers or lace ups to 'cradle' my foot. And I can't think about the other foot until at least October. So back to see them in 6 weeks and in the meantime wear trainers all day every day. Hot feet anyone! Sue
